Thanks for the inspirations needed to hold me over until I get there.

Yes thanks so much for the trip reports, loved them.
If you ever go diving over in Catalina would love to dive with you sometime.
We often go over aboard the great escape, magician, or the Mr, C.

Thanks Tom for the wonderful detailed reports. I read them each day and think I'm leaning a little more towards Cozumel for our September 2011 trip because of them.

Thanks again

My pleasure - if you're deciding between Jamacia and Cozumel, then I would say hands down Cozumel. I didn't mind Jamacia, but in my opinion (and that's all it is - an opinion) the safety, the shopping, the food, and most especially the diving in Cozumel is vastly superior!

I enjoyed reading your well written and very useful report. Thanks for posting it.

Cozumel vs Jamacia????? Oh my...... there is no comparison :)

OK I need to clarify something here. This trip in September is NOT our dive vacation. That is Roatan in February. This is our "nice hotel with great food & service plus there is SOME diving". Jamaica was Sandals or Couples which offers 2 free morning dives.

Yes I agree Cozumel wins hands down over Jamaica for diving but that is not the total purpose of the trip though.

Fair enough! I have no experience with AI's so I can't comment - the ones down on the southern end of Coz look pretty darn good!

Friends just got back from a week at Wyndham. An AI that they said was amazing. And rather than dive with Sand Dollars on site - they paid an extra $3/person/day to have Pappa Hoggs pick them up at the dock. Whole trip was less than $1500/person.

That may be the way to go. Except I seem to really like the look of Suba Club Cozumel but that's not a 5* or AI. Hmmm. Decisions Decisions :D

SCC is not a 5 star accommodation, but it doesn't try to be; it's a very nice divers' hotel. It may not be an AI, but it's close to all the great restaurants in town.
