Not sure if this is in the right or best forum. Move as needed please - just let me know where it goes (:

Anyway - looking for a liveaboard trip in Feb 2009, out of LA or San Diego (thereabouts). Something in the 3-5 day range. Wife wants to go somewhere warm - I dunno what the weather/diving is like down there during this time frame. Hoping to avoid having to go to Florida or Mexico or something.

Looking for info, advice, operators, etc. Please advise (:

Thanks!

Days may or may not be warm, but the water definitely won't be. Water temperature should be in the high 50F's. What about Hawaii?

The temperature is fairly mild on the coast all year round, meaning it generally does not get too hot, nor does it get too cold. But seeing that it will be February, it will likely be grey, cool, and misty out on the ocean. As mentioned above, water temperatures will probably be in the 50's (lower 50's at depth....have heard of it being as low at 48F at depth...).

If YOU want warmer, more tropical diving, socal is not the place....if you want amazing diving in kelp forests, this is definitely the place! Socal diving is awesome, but it's certainly not tropical....and being on the Pacific Ocean is not always warm.

What about Hawaii?
Well, I need to use airline miles and I don't have enough for Hawaii. Plus, last time I was there, I found the prices to be way too high, the hospitality way too low, and the place to be overrated in general. I figure for the same money or less, might as well go to Mexico.

But OK - I get the message. No warm water diving down there. Crapaola. I guess we'll have to go to Florida. Muuuuuch longer plane ride ):

...Wife wants to go somewhere warm...

While SoCal can be warm in February there is no guarantee of that. If you truly want to go to a warm climate with warm water then your just may have to go to Mexico or Florida.
