Hubby and I are thinking of doing a live aboard in Sept/Oct. He is thinking of Komodo National Park. He is a very experienced diver but I only snorkel.

With that in mind, will I be able to snorkel at Komodo or elsewhere....I did a week in the Red Sea on a live aboard and snorkeled and swam all the time so I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks in advance....if anyone has any other suggestions it would be great !

There are certainly options to snorkel in Komodo although I do not know how it compares to the Red Sea. Due to currents or surface swells over top of several common dives sites, you may not be able to snorkel every time others are diving but between dives, there should be plenty of opportunity to get in the water near more sheltered reefs.

Hi Scarke,

There's fantastic snorkeling in a great many places around Komodo but like Zippsy said too, I don't know how it compares to the red sea?
There's definitely less boats around Komodo, that's for sure.
Gili Banta offers nice snorkeling, Gili Lawa Laut Bay in the north is great and so is the south side of Gili Lawa Darat, Lighthouse Reef is great, Tatawa Besar as well as Sebayur is ideal for snorkeling, Batu Bolong on a good day is all right for snorkeling too. Pink Beach is a classic among snorkelers and plenty more, incl. different places aound Rinca etc.
Even places down south are good but the water temp around Sept./October can be cold and the viz not too clear. The important thing is that you make sure to get on a boat with enough tenders so that they can spare one for you to snorkel when divers go to a site where snorkeling is not ideal or not possible. There's also some very nice little walks with great views and vistas to be done, especially around Gili Banta, Gili Lawa Laut and Padar Island.

Thanks for all the great advice...have to have a look now at boats available and flights too....Thanks again !

We had a couple of snorkelers on our charter. The boat captain was also an avid snorkeler and often went with the guests. Good snorkeling isn't always available, but it isn't bad. Not as good as Raja.

Which liveaboards are you considering?

I'm also in the market for a trip - there seem to be quite a few boats to choose from. Are they all good?

Most important - do any have single cabins?
