Hi all

I have browsed various dive magazines and the internet - including this awesome forum - trying to find suggestions on where to go – season wise - on a liveaboard in July.

Apparently, July is a bit of an off-season when it comes to diving. Monsoon season in parts of Asia, hurricane season in the Caribbean and rainy season in parts of Central America.

I’m aware that many dive destinations are considered to be all-year destinations, but I’m trying to find a spot where July is actually the best season. Any suggestions from you guys on where to go in July would therefore be much appreciated.

Coming from Scandinavia, I’m looking for warmer waters, and generally, I’m into larger species and schools. Probably, the Maldives would be my top priority, if July was peak season. However, from what I learned, July is rainy season in the Maldives.

The last couple of years, I had the opportunity to do a bit of traveling. This means that I have already visited a few places: Australia (Ningaloo and GB), New Zealand, the Pacific (Cook Island, Tonga, Fiji), Thailand (Koh Tao, Similans), the Red Sea (Dahab) and Bonaire.

Where should I go this coming July?

Cheers

July is high season in the Continental US, both coasts.

Hi guys

Thanks for your ideas!

Komodo is on my list and I’m looking more into that. Do you have any additional input that I should have in mind when looking at Komodo?

Continental US – do you have any particular spots in mind, Wookie?

Cheers

Shorter channel islands liveaboards (long weekends) depart from Santa Barbara, Long Beach, and San Diego. The Fling departs from Freeport (south of Houston) to the Texas Flower Gardens, long the healthiest reef in the world. Not very big, but far bigger than you will see in a weekend. Spree, Ultimate Getaway, Juliet, Easy Goin', R/V Kate, Dolphin Dream, and Shearwater depart South Florida to the Dry Tortugas, Florida Keys, or many sites in the Bahamas.

I see you are from Copenhagen, as was my grandfather. You might not be interested in a shorter liveaboard, but there are plenty of those boats listed above that do 7 and 10 day trips too.

It's high season in Galapagos! Whale sharks, Hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, Silky sharks, Manta Rays, Eagle Rays, Dolphins, Mola Molas, so many turtles you quickly take them for granted, sea lions, enormous schools of barracudas-jacks- tropicals, penguins, seahorses and then of course, there's the topside. Still some discounts available in July if deposited this week.

Most boats leave from Labuan Bajo. Fly into Bali and plan to overnight there before your onward flight to Labuan Bajo. A few boats leave from Bima, but there's the same need for an overnight before flying out on a domestic flight.

Kdac,

Four of us booked a 10-day trip on the Indo Siren Jul 6-16 to Komodo National Park. We fly into Bali on Jul-5 and then take a domestic flight to Bima on Jul-6 where we will meet the boat. I'm holding 1 cabin for 2 other friends, but it's likely they will pass. I need to give up the hold on Jan-30. If you are interested let me know. It's not a cheap trip (~$4000). Hope you can join.
