In July we will go for a week long trip to the Southern Red Sea. I'm sure the price is still unbeatable in Egypt, for example we'll pay 550 euros for a week long trip, about 20 dives, all meals, double cabins en suite, etc. But in the summer, especially at full moon you can expect large schools in the north, at Ras Muhammad area.
Large schools of what?

Yeah? Only at the full moon?

I was wondering because in Portuguese (one of my "home" languages), we have a word that translates to "school" but it's used exclusively for fish (cardume), whereas in English it might refer to a school of fish or to a dive school with lots of the creatures you identified! (And even the English word "shoal" can mean more than one thing, so if ElChe had written, "you can expect large shoals" it still would have left me wondering if he meant fish or shallow reefs.)

Still, I'll bet he meant :fish:of some kind. What kind?

Snappers, jacks, unicorn surgeonfish, batfish... And shoals, certainly.:) But there are lot of divers, too, altough much less than in the past.

I had to mention the trip last year was really great. We were lucky with the weather and the currents (we didn't feel any at the Ras Muhammad, for example, we had very easy dives), we had some dolphin encounters, some spectacular dives with shoals, awesome wreck dives (the divers had the chance to dive 8 different wrecks, small and big, modern and older, etc), there were turtles, thousands of glassfish, lot of different morays, and so on. As we in the last few years organize photographer-friendly trips, it was a little different from the ordinary trips. We prefer to stay at specific spots and if it's possible, we try to be the only one dive boat. Maybe our dives are shallower but longer as well. I think the key of the nice liveaboard experience to know your limits and expectations and choose the right trip. I'm sure there are plenty of the divers who'd be bored to visit the same shallow dive spot for 3 or 4 times but for us it was a wonderful chance to go back for a nice subject.
This year we will head to the south, to explore some another reefs. I don't expect shoals there, but larger and more turtles, less wrecks but if we visit there can be sharks- we'll see. I still love Red Sea diving...:)

Liveaboard...It is a huge area. We were on the Dewi Nusantara and loved it. We are going to raja ampat on her in December. I think there are a few nice choices for liveaboards there. It was a great trip. The diving really is far and above caribbean diving. It was not crowded and had something for everyone.
