One of the most disturbing aspects of the predicted path of Wilma displayed on crownweather (http://www.crownweather.com/tropical.html) is the closeness together of the black dots that represent predicted positions of the center at 12 hour intervals. Four of them are grouped tightly together, even overlapping, at the tip of the Yucatan. This means that if the predictions are correct, Cozumel and Cancun will be subjected to hurricane conditions for two solid days. Sacre merde!

The question before the winds reverse and the other side of the eye hits the island is how much rain did they have and was it enough to weaken the hold the trees have in the ground. The damage from flying trees if they don’t hold after the wind shift could be a real problem.

A good sign is that the waves reported at the Yucatan Basin buoy have dropped from over 36’ to the 26-27’ range over the past few hours while the winds have also been dropping. Hopefully that will limit some of the wave damage on top of any storm surge.
