Hi,

I am researching a trip in the future to the Little Cayman Beach Resort. I have one question concerning transfers on the way back. Since Cayman Airways has luggage weight restrictions, I am wondering if I should plan a day stopover in Grand Cayman on the way back just in case Caymain Airways decides they can't take one of my bags. I normally only travel with two bags and a carry on backpack.

Any thoughts?

I think the day you go can be important. Most people come and go on Saturdays. On those days, the flight can be full and everyone has dive gear. We went one time on Saturday and they asked us to pack up our gear the day before (it was wet) so they could take it out on the Friday afternoon flight. They wanted to charge us an overage. We got out of it by telling them that if they had let us dry the gear over night, it would not have been over and we got out of it.

Coming and going on another day of the week, might allow you to avoid any rush. There is a problem with that too. Our flight was delayed because they waited until they had enough people to make a run to Little Cayman and Cayman Brach and still make a little money on it.

If you are way over weight with your bags, you might talk to Cayman Air. They can probably make some sort of arrangements like taking one of your bags back to Grand Cayman the day before you leave and you just pick it up. But that probably would not be necessary.

As was said above, LCBR usually will ask you to try to have at least one of your bags ready the night before if you are leaving on an early flight. That way if they are expecting a full flight, they can take some over on earlier flights and still make the connections. If you usually travel with two checked bags, just give them the one with all your laundry and gear you won't need the night before. Keep the one for your dive gear to allow it time to dry overnight. I have never really heard of bags left behind being a problem on the trip back to GC.

Concur with AggieDiver. LCBR will ask you to send your gear early. usually not a problem as once it gets to Grand Cayman it is stored in the airport and you will retrieve it in the same area as the rest of the luggage coming off the plane. We go Saturday to Saturday and always have our luggage waiting for us. When are you planning to go?
