Hello divers!

Looking for your reco on where to dive in cayman - little cayman or cayman brac. What has better diving and/or more sites or are they both about the same?

Our store goes to both every year. I'm told that Cayman Brac is a bit less traveled, but there's some all inclusive stuff at Little Cayman and the food is outstanding. Our store had been going to Cayman Brac for 15'ish years. When they started going to Little Cayman, I think they decided that LC was their favorite.

Cayman Brac is terrific. That having been said, the single best dive I did when I stayed at Brac Reef Beach Resort was on Bloody Bay Wall on Little Cayman (the two islands are only 7 miles apart, so they go over there for 2 dives once during the week if conditions allow and if passengers are willing to pay a fuel surcharge).

You really can't go wrong with either, but based on my experience, I'd say Little Cayman is probably slightly better. We certainly saw more big stuff over there. Brac might have more different types of sites - there's a wall, shallow coral gardens, or a terrific wreck (the Captain Keith Tibbetts) depending on where you go.

Can't speak to LC but going back to the Brac next week. We stay at rental houses and the Brac has 3 supermarkets so it's a plus!

Both resorts are run by the same entity, so the experience should be very similar at both, that is topside. Little Cayman has virtually nothing except a few resorts. Cayman Brac has some development. It also has the Cayman Parrot, which is a unique endemic species. I think both islands have the Cayman iguana, which is another unique endemic species.

I have been to Little Cayman a number of times. The visibility tends to be excellent. The seas are usually pretty calm. The currents are not an issue. The walls are abrupt and go ridiculously deep. Most of the places moored allow you to poke around coral heads on your safety stop. The top of the wall varies from about 40' at the deepest to about 20'.

The corals are good. The place is famous for large Nassau Groupers that are often very tame and think divers exist to scratch their itchy spots. Hawksbill turtles are common and very approachable. You will usually see stingrays, nurse sharks, reef sharks and eagle rays. There are many fish because an effort is made to prevent fishing.

I undstand that Brac has a similar wall but that it starts a bit deeper and is not as steep.

I have been to both, and the times we went to the Brac, the highlight of the week was the day we crossed over and dove at little cayman. Now we just stay on little cayman and get the best all week long.

Shore diving is fantastic on Brac. The south east wall at end of island is every bit as dramatic as LC. Explore and you won't be disappointed. Less divers, just have to wait for the weather to cooperate. Either island will be fun. It's like choosing who your favorite kid is. You can definitely tell your diving Bloody Bay Wall, just have to share with 50 other people. Cheers

Not trying to start an argument, but I have been diving Bloody Bay Wall for 4 different week long trips, and I can't think of more than maybe twice that I have even seen ANY divers from another boat while underwater. What situation were you in that you felt like you had 50 other divers on the site with you? Did a cruise ship veer off course one week when you were there or something? I understand that there are fewer resorts on Cayman Brac and that is apparently your thing, but anybody who thinks of Little Cayman as crowded needs to get out more. Cozumel is crowded...Grand Cayman can be crowded...LC, not so much. Yes, you might see a few other boats around on other dive sites along the same wall, but there is plenty of reef to spread out on and I have never felt crowded on a dive in LC.

We dove the Keith Tibbots when the Aggressor was there. Wasn't a big deal at all, they seemed more curious as to my 11 year old son down with us.
