My wife and I are considering an August trip to Little Cayman with th LDS. I was wondering if there will be any problem with extra baggage, usually I have two carry ons and one dive suitcase and a big Pelican case for photo equipment. both checked bags are < 50 lbs. I have heard that probably all bags wont fly together ? Other than this will there be issues with this many bags ?

Thanks !

Good luck. too many and too heavy bags. When I was there two years ago, my dive and camera gear arrived two days after me. The TINY plane going to LC cant handle all that gear. And I mean TINY plane, like canvas seats 12 inches wide..GULP!

They also weigh carry ons. I carried on my reg, mask, camera & computer and a change of clothes, toothbrush & meds. When my luggage didn't make it (dive bag did, clothes didn't), I was all set. Take less clothes than you think you'll need, its very casual. Good news is if you take your dive stuff with you, while you are out diving your luggage usually gets delivered and is there for you at the end of the day's diving.

Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunantly (at least in this case) my camera rig is a DSLR and I dont think I could carry on enough gear to make it worthwhile, with the strobes, ports, housing, etc. Sounds like this might be a show stopper. I could do w/o clothes and could do w/o the camera gear for a day or two at most, but I'd be a little concerned about it if it didnt show for a couple of days. I wonder if there are any alternatives ?

Send the gear via fedex to the hotel from Miami

heavily insured.

The trip with the LDS in kind of an all inclusive thing and I dont believe I would be able to ship from Miami. Cheapest shipping one way from Denver to Little Cayman is almost $500 ! I think I'll just hope I get the camera stuff in time to take some pics.

Thanks for your input merxlin and promocop

not clear, is that for both of you, or just yours? If it's just yours, you might consider working on strategies to rearrange and strip it down cause you may want to go other places where it will also be a problem. People do get there with gear, cameras with the works, and enough clothes in somewhat less.

They are pretty good about getting luggage there relatively soon if it doesn't fit on your flight. And they often ask you to send some stuff back early so it all gets to GC for people's flights home. (Most airports/airlines this routine would concern me, but I've seen no reason to worry about it there.) Some flights are less popular than others, try for those. Afternoon flights after people have arrived on GC and are continuing on to LC, especially around the weekends, will be full and with more luggage. Midweek morning flights you will have a much better chance of getting your luggage on. Though if you're sticking to a prearranged trip this might not be an option for you.
