So, just got back from a trip to Bonaire and I am really depressed at just how many lionfish we saw during our stay and reported/marked to the Marine Park, ourselves. I really think it's about time that PADI or some other diving entity globally gets involved and allows some form of free certification or equivalent short course for capture and universal removal of these species. I can only imagine that the insanely fast spread of these fish will only overwhelm even the best Marine Agencies, etc. Seems like with more action by the general Joe diver we could help control the problem even better.

-I know that many of the marine parks are saving samples for genetic profiling, etc, but that with reporting standards and sample preservation could potentially be addressed in such a class.

What do you guys/gals think?--Do you think the prevailing governments/agencies are allowing enough freedom for Joe Diver to help? Reporting seems feeble after a certain point?

I propose we let divers carry knives in Cozumel and we could then stab Lionfish when sighted in Cozumel. :thumb:

(gloves would be recommended also do you don't sting your hands removing the Lionfish from your knife).

Gloves also help in the removal of offending flip-flops.

I second that.

Trust me, they're there now, in total full force. We located 1 on the Hilma Hooker's Reef, Marked 1 with ribbon on Bachelor Beach, and saw the marine park removing 1 from Keepsake, just in the week we were there.
