I remember something like this from back in the 70's touted as an alternative to powerheads for killing sharks.

It was the Farrallon Shark Dart, same CO2 injection idea, only not a knife but a pointed spike with a passage for hp CO2 to flow into through the point into the stabbed target. These were somewhat common to see in SoCal in the day, since they were originally designed for the Navy and sold at the LDSs in San Diego. If I recall, they were not originally designed for sharks but UW combat with a side benefit of downed pilot shark protection.

But we are not killing shark anymore.

.....something like 100 million sharks are killed by humans annually.....1.2 billion Chinese will stop at nothing to satisfy their craving for shark fin soup!
 
Not sure about the Law and Order episode but it was in a Patricia Cornwell Scarpetta novel called Port Mortuary that I just read. :idk:
