Calling all divers! Help battle the lionfish invasion in Abaco, Bahamas! On Weds. June 16, Treasure Cay Hotel Resort & Marina is hosting the "Ravage the Savage" Lionfish tournament. It's a lay-day activity of the Treasure Cay Billfish Tournament where the public is invited to participate. Entry is $15 pp or $35 per boat with a purse of more than $500 in cash and prizes. Captains meeting is 8:30 am, capture lionfish from 10-4 with awards immediately following. Prizes based on numbers of lionfish. Be sure to read up on this voracious species, those in the tournament must be careful not to come in contact with their venomous spines. Lionfish are devastating the Abaco reefs and have no natural predators, that's why the tournaments are needed to keep them at bay. There were more than 200 lionfish per boat brought in at a recent tournament in Marsh Harbour. Bring or rent your own snorkel gear - check the website as they have applied for the ok to use scuba tanks. A three-pronged spear prevents them from sliding down the shaft. Don't have a boat? Get a spot on Treasure Divers boat, call 242-365-8571.

If so, there's another lionfish derby in Green Turtle on Saturday, June 19. Both tournaments have united for this lionfish battle.

Please pass this on to friends to help support this conservation effort!
