I'm currently looking into buying a BCD but the only brand my divestore sells is Oceanic. They have other brands that they use for rental and sell those on a day where they sell the rental gear. I'm wondering if anyone knows why this is? I don't have any problem with Oceanic and I know I can buy elsewhere but I'm curious to know why they only have the Oceanic Islander and Excursion BCDs?

The cost of capital and inventory.
The manufacturers don't put gear in dive shops on consignment.

Do you mean they only sell those other brands on that day? That's likely because a wholesaler brings in gear for that sale only. One of my LDS's has a pre-Christmas sale that's like that.

Where in kansas is this shop I am in N KC and have mares & zeagle in stock but can get many others maybe if it is a small town shop they dont have the funds to stock any others or maybe they had other lines but lost them due to not selling enough of that product or just didnt like the others and got rid of them...

Why not ask them?

There are three dive shops here in Wichita, each sells a slightly different assortment, one just recently picked up some Halycon stuff. Mostly they carry very limited generic poodle jackets and basic gear suitable for beginner/casual divers. If your in Wichita I might can provide you a reference to a shop. Most will order anything but of course you can do that from Scubatoys etc right now.

You cannot expect small shops so far inland in a place where there is NO diving to carry anything but gear for casual divers and then only in a few styles, serious divers and tech etc need not apply. The local club considers a day at the swimming pool a logable dive--lol.

Fortunatly my time here is coming to a slow end, thank the diety for that.

It's midwest aquatics. I love the place and the instructors and everything but I was when I get ready to buy my BCD I'd just like to have a few more options to try on in the store and see how they fit rather than just asking them to order one.
