As I am a Small Arms Weaapons Instructo in the military I'm a fim believer in there is no such thing as a stupid question so here it goes.

With the high price of strobe equipment, can you use a flashlight (as long as your subject cooperates) to imluminate your pics underewater? Just a curious question. I have not tried myself but just wonder if anyone has.

It would be nice if flashligts would work for photos, but we couldn't spend gobs of money on strobes and movie lights. Some of the pros here can explain it better, but I think it has to do with temerature and color of the light.

Not an expert by any means! A flashlight is not bright enough to use as a strobe. At night, it will only cause a warm yellow spotlight in your pics. And you'd simple never see it during the day.

The temperature of the light is too warm, it doesn't cover a wide enough area, and like mapman said we'd never get to buy new toys.

I'm sure one of the engineering gearheads can do a much better job explaining than I.
