I think the newish Ikelite Pro lite 3 Robin has uses a much smaller and lighter battery than the older Ikelite version.

Ikelite housings use a weighted stand to offset the housing buoyancy. I believe the battery takes the place of the stand so their is no additional weight or bulk. Robin, can you confirm this is true ?

yes, the weighted housing base comes off and the battery for the light attaches in its place. The rig is totally balanced and slightly negative, just the way you want it. :D

A very different aproach you find in my review on wetpixel:

Sealux HX7 underwater housing for Sony HDR-FX7 review :: Wetpixel.com

At the end there is a kind of handlamp (HID) which is neutral in seawater and has a thread to mount video arms easily. So, there is no battery pack and you can use it as a handlamp. I am very pleased with this solution. The German Gates shop recommended this version years ago.

Can you give some more info on those lights ? Cost, watts, beam angle ? Tough to tell which Hartenberger light it is. They all look the same.

:-) Sorry. Of course I can. Kowalski and Hartenberger are very popular and longlasting lamps in Europe.

There is an english version of the website available:

Hartenberger dive lamps, UW lights and UW-flash light for scuba diver and professionals

The price is around 929 Euros in Germany (1300 Dollars). The lamp is called

mega compact D2 Video

Click on "mega (D2,Video)" in the navigation bar on the left. Then you will find it. There are two versions: normal housing and bigger, neutral housing. The bigger neutral housing is the right one.

The order code in the table is: megad2v

The lamp is HID, lasts 70 min with 70% and they offer a longer lasting and less dangerous lithium manganese battery for 60 Euros surcharge.

My lamp arm I bought from Sealux in Germany for around 200 Dollars. HGVT.com has it in the US.

Ok?

np

Yes, nice comparion. This is why I like HID, it is not too red.

The lamp is expensive but flexibel and longlasting. I bought mine in 2004, it is like new.
