I've never used one, but do you really save weight by carrying a J-valve & rod over just using a SPG?

I am not sure I understand your question. A B&G SPG and HP hose add significantly to the weight of a regulator. A J-valve and pull-rod stay attached to the cylinder, and, so, do not add to the weight of a regulator.I've never used one, but do you really save weight by carrying a J-valve & rod over just using a SPG?
When I saw that OP wanted a lightweight set, the first thing that came to my mind was air travel -- so I was thinking one would have to bring at least the J-valve (perhaps 2 for 2-tank boat dives) to avoid using a SPG.
