Hello all,
I was hoping that my first post on this site would be a positive one, but I'm sorry that I must be the bearer of some bad news.

I have just learned that one of my favorite wrecks, the Northwestern (previously thought to be the Perseverance ) off the shores of Rogers City, MI (outside the Thunder Bay Sanctuary boundaries) was recently raped of all it's artifacts except a few broken ones. This is a sad day because I will never see the whiskey jugs, plates, pocket watch, etc....again or take my kids down to enjoy. Now we can only view the pictures of what used to be. Not only is it illegal in the Great Lakes, it is just plain morally wrong and selfish to bring up these artifacts.
Lets stick together to keep Great Lakes Diving pure and enjoyable for future generations of divers.
I doubt this person is a scubaboard member, but if you are and read this, know that we are looking for you and if you are found,......I need not say more.

Take Care and Safe Diving

Hey vidodivr, welcome to the board, and thanks for the heads up on the missing artifacts. It's a shame what people will do, I'm sure it will eventually come back to haunt them. This is why it so hard to get any numbers (GPS) for the wrecks, nobody wants to see them get piliged.

Thanks Mike,
It's good to be here. I have seen a lot of great posts on this site and I'm glad to see some Michigan divers hangin out. Hopefully the artifacts will be found and at least put in a museum. Mike, if you or anyone you know has any information or has dove this wreck between july 4th and Aug 27 please contact Steve Kroll at godiving@greatlakesdivers.com.

Thanks,
Rob

I'll keep an ear out, also let the guys I dive with know. I'll also ask at the LDS here, if any came in wanting to dive in Rogers City or asking about the Northwestern, I think it will be a long shot seeing how we are 35 miles south.

Sad,
all for what? to sit in a rec room, hid from all? The states need to raise fines,Pay bountys to folks that turn the salvagers in, that would be a dive bud looking for some new equipment!
Take their boats/houses and sell them to raise cash. only then it may slow down,
It will never stop.
