how about it people
lets have a read of your first, if you have it written down, and your last dive
as it's written on your log, no need for making it better or worse than you have written
this is my first dive, as it reads from my log
dive no 1, time: 10:00, out 10:40 date: 21/10/96
instructor: josh, location: neptunes table {israel}, air: 200 bar start, end 50 bar
just fantastic, it was much better than the introductory dive as we got in from a platorm, i did have bouyance problems with the bc vest, long john wetsuit much better that jacket type
bottom time was 40 mins, max depth 15m

my last dive
dive no 155, time: 09:59, out 11:00 date: 21/11/04 : nitrox 32
dive buddy: herman {the german} location: maha thila {helengeli, maldives}, air 200 bar start, end 54 bar
my last dive in the maldives for this year, i hope to get out there again next year, dived with herman again, hoping to get another glimpse of the elusive red frog fish, there wasa reporter from one of the big german dive magazines, he was there to see the frog fish, but it was not to be for any of us, it got very crowded every time that the guides found something to look at, evertone tried to be the first to see, i guess incase it was the red frog fish
bottom time 61 mins, max depth 24.1m

this is mine as it reads from the log
don't be shy

I don't know if I even logged my first dive. At any rate I only log a portion of the dives I've make and the only log I have anymore starts in 2003 and only has a couple of hundred dives in it. I did actually log my last dive because I wanted the reference for next year. Here is the entry:

"5/12/2004 Zevenhuizenplassen, 110/22/48 13,5m 5C -- Alles dood"

My entries range from ones like this to ones with detailed site descriptions, route descriptions and other practical information.

Dive 6 (first after certification) 8/31/03
Gene's Aqua Pro, Lake Tenkiller, OK, USA, fun dive from dock
Buddy: Richard (husband)
Conditions: calm, cloudy, temp 85 F, viz 10 ft
Plan: 30-35 ft, 60 min, 3000 psi
Dive: 20 ft, 20 min, no end psi recorded

"Where: Gene's AquaPro dock. Equipment: my mask, snorkel, fins, boots, weights: 12 lbs. Dacor X-treme Elle BC - weight-integ., no chest strap. AL 80 tank. Dacor Viper regs, inf. hose & 3-gauge (Scuba Adventures, OKC)
"Notes: Too low in water (weight? BC?) Dragging bottom. Tank too heavy, 1st stage riding up (add weights to BC.) Richard & I found VW, boat... Shark! (hee! hee!) --
"Note: fell going up rocks to parking lot -- 80 tank too heavy. Felt like a beached whale
-- not hurt, just scrapes."
me - 1 dive - 20 min
Beth (daughter) - 2 dives - 15 min each
Richard - 3 dives - 15 min each

Dive 39 (last dive during AOW) 8/15/04
Dewey Short - shallow dive area, Table Rock State Park, MO, USA
Advanced Open Water - Peak Performance Buoyancy
Buddy: Richard, Natasha (instructor)
Conditions: calm, sunny, temp 75 F, viz 10-15 ft
Plan: 25 ft, 60 min, 2800 psi
Dive: 31 ft, rt/ 61 min + bt/ 31 min = tt 92 min (H), 1290 psi
(This was my second dive of the day. The first was a deep dive to 85 ft.)

"Peak Performance Buoyancy: AOW. Buddies Richard, Natasha, R.J. (Joel didn't go.) Swam to Natasha's dive flag at shallow area. Dove and "floated" to bottom, stopping before landing. Hover, hover, hover....
"Scubaed to PVC square. Swam in and out of squares (two.) Hover, hover, hover... Scubaed back to flag using different levels... This is where I lost the group... Found flag, did safety stop, waited. Tasha and R.J. found flag, Richard looked some more and surfaced.
"Too much pike position! Tasha suggested ankle weights. Did buoyancy check first with 12 lbs but used 10 lbs (suit was wet.) 12-14 lbs is best (suit was a 3 mil J/J)

Yep, that learning curve is in effect!

When I first started diving, I was going to do the official logs which they tell us to do at Padi. I hate doing paper work when I'm doing somethng for fun. So I've decided to do my logs my way, and since most logs are in reality on the honor system, I don't think that it can hurt as long as I'm honest.

What I do is that I take alot of pictures when I dive. I'll set a side a few of my pictures as my dive profile or log as you would have it. When I down load the picture to my computer I title the picture with where I dove, the depth, time and what I actually did on the dive.

Now I keep my log up to date and I actually don't mind doing it.

Ooh, sounds like a good idea for a computer dive log program?

Probably already in here somewhere, but are there any good PC dive log programs out there already?

I'll post my first log once I have my OW dive next weekend. ;)

I use diverecord.com

But I also keep a paper logbook. Or at least I will until I hit the 100 dive mark. That way I will have written proof in case I ever decide to go for Master Diver, Dive Master and/or Instructor.

I don't have the first but here is the last logged:
185 minutes at an average depth of 11' (max20') on the coral reef just north of Kamole One, Maui using a single AL80 of air.

Lots of interesting stuff in this small area. Green Sea Turtles and even a Spotted Eagle Ray as well as every sort of fish on the little plastic ID card including several kinds of Puffer Fish, Parrot Fish, Goat Fish, Butterfly Fish, Trumpet Fish, Coronet Fish, Damsel Fish, a Hawaiian Turkey Fish, several Leaf Scorpion Fish, Octopus, a Spotted White Mouth Moray, Yellow Margin Moray, Conger Eel and my favorite - a Snowflake Moray Eel.

Oh, can you feel my envy?!?!?! 185 minutes!!! The longest I've been under on one dive is 67 minutes, and that flew by. I can't even imagine being under for 3 hrs!

Uncle Pug:
stay shallow

I just have to find somewhere that has something to see at 11'. Guess we'll be going to Hawaii soon.
