The same thing happened in Florida during "mini-season" at the end of July (this year, and almost every year). There were a few deaths... mostly from inexperienced people hitting the water for their annual foray into being a lobster hunter.

MHK:
It seems that old man Mr. Murphy has decided to spend some time in the local waters lately, so I thought I'd take a minute to remind everyone that it couldn't hurt to take an extra minute or so in the pre-dive checks, or to pay a bit more attention underwater. In the last 2 months or so we've had the 2 RB fatalitites, I understand there were 2 additional fatalities in the last week; 1 embolism; and 1 rescue of an unconscious diver at the rigs on Wednesday. I also heard some poor unsuspecting bug hunter is short 1 finger..

In any event, with bug season now upon us, we usually see a increase in injuries as a result of divers being out of the water for the better part of the year since the end of last bug season, so please take a minute to be a bit more careful, and who knows maybe even buddy up with someone ;-)
Thanks, Mike.

Pre-dive checks, last minute gear checks, Safety-drills before you descend, these sorts of things are never bad ideas.

The more in a hurry you are, the more important they become ;)

I dove with one of the bitten diver's family members yesterday, he confirmed it was a bite, and it did nip the end of a finger off.

Oh, and we got a few bugs.

A Life Guard friend of mine said that it happened when she was putting the lobster in her bag. The lobster bit off the tip of her pinky finger. Apparently, lobsters mandibles are a lot stronger than people realize.

We should make a reality TV show called when lobsters attack! They're taking vengeance from the years and years of being drown in garlic butter.

One part of me says "eat the lobster that bites off my finger"... then I realize... maybe that isnt a good idea!

Sorry to hear that happened to her... I dont think many of us would have ever worried about that before. I will forever be more careful!
