A lot has changed since I made my last dive light. I'm currently thinking about building a light around an LED MR16 bulb like this one.
Green Creative 40811 - 7.7 Watt - LED - MR16 - 4000K

And using a lithium battery, possibly a 26650.
Also my plan would be to get away from the canister. If I can get away with just a couple batteries I could probably make the light head and battery compartment combined much like a flashlight.

What is the state of the art in the DYI community?
