I have the opportunity to spend almost a week in Fiji this coming August/September and am starting to zero-in on Taveuni. My wife and I will be continuing onto New Zealand where she will be giving presentations at a medical educator's conference (so I expect at least one of our suitcases to be heavily loaded). Plus I really would prefer to dive with my own gear.

I've spoken to Fiji Airlines (and Fiji Direct) and it looks like we only get 15 kg of baggage with overage costing FJD 6.50/kg.

Is there a way we can leave one or more bags in/near the Nadi airport?

Better yet, for those of you that have flown to the other islands, what did you do about luggage

Bula!

Unfortunately, flying around Fiji is expensive. To minimise costs look at diving at Raki Raki, which is on the main island (no flights) - It's the best diving on the main island IMO. I stayed at Volivoli, they pick you up and drop you back, all you have to do is get yr luggage to the carpark. Diving the Bligh Strait is good - I've dived both Somosomo strait and Bligh strait and they are comparable. Plus the food at Volivoli is excellent. If your heart is set on diving the Great White Wall, then you will have to cough for flights to TVU or SVU or take the ferry (but then you wont have enough time if you are only there for a week) and stay at a place that can get you out to the Somosomo strait.

There are a few hotels across the road from the airport. We have used them for day rooms waiting for our late night flight to LAX. Perhaps for a fee or if you stay there after or before your flight, they may store your luggage. We have been to Taveuni several times and lived there for a month in 2015. The diving is great. Check our Nakia Eco Resort on TripAdvisor. All reviews are accurate. Their dive operation is Taveuni Ocean Sports. You will never find a better dive operation anywhere!

Our experience flying through Nadi is to be very over cautious! Our experience was so bad that the wife and I have vowed never to fly through Nadi ever again. Complaints to the airlines and airport operations fell on deaf ears.

Bert van den Berg - My wife and I will be flying into and/or out of Nadi three times this coming March. Is there anything in particular of which we should be aware? Thanks.

We flew from New Zealand to the USA via Nadi airport.

Exited the Fiji Air airplane, walked less than 30 yards to the transit lounge to await our next flight on Fiji Air and had all our duty free wines (which were sealed in labeled "security" bags) confiscated. Then less than ten yards past the security checkpoint that confiscated our wines you could purchase the same wines. These were expensive New Zealand wines intended as gifts for our USA host.

The prices for food and drink in the transit lounge were incredibly high (even MacDonalds) and the WiFi, for which you had to prepay, didn't work.

Flew Fiji Airways 2 years ago. Caradonna tours booked us and for $50 each ( dive and surf package ) we were allowed 2 X 50 lbs bags each and that was for both directions and included the flight on Fiji Link to Tavenui
