Leave for the keys tonight, dive shop cancles trip !

I fly out to the Keys tonight, all packed and ready to go , I made dive reservations a month ago for my myself and a friend.


I get home tonight to find a message on the phone from the charter, I guess they just figured out this is a Holiday weekend and the captain doenst want to go out !!


So my dives are cancled and they are booked for the rest of the week.

Not real happy but they were nice about it. Maybe they should have offered me a freebie on another date

Ditto. Rest assured there will be plenty of choices. When you're traveling on something like Easter weekend, though, it's a good idea to check in advance whether that might be an issue.

Im going to staying in Key West till the 11th, the dive was out of Marathon.

I have called and found a dive on another day and location but I had to move my whole trip around, this was also going to be a night dive, now its an afternoon dive

Im still trying to get ahold of my friend because we are flying in from two different place on different days.

A shop will usually try to book parties on another charter if there is a boat issue or another reason the charter is not able to run. Sounds like you are taking it well. If not too late I am sure plenty of other charters will be more than happy to get the business.

I would for sure find a new dive op and take my money elsewhere. I doubt I would be as forgiving. Bad weather or boat problems are valid reasons that I can respect but "don't want to" or not enough divers is not an acceptable reason IMO. At minimum they should have offered to find you a differnet charter.

I agree, the dive shop had a responsibility to find you another charter operation IF they booked your reservation and stated that there were enough divers to ensure the boat went out. Only exception I can think of is a 24-hour cancelation policy: if enough divers cancelled in time, it might have brought the number of paid divers below their minimum number to run. Still, a good dive shop would find you another boat going out.

Yeah..plenty of places down there! Captains Corner always worked for me in a pinch (had another op up the Keys cancel on me, and they slipped me in easily)

Try Captains Corner, Dive Key West, Southpoint, and Bonsai in KW, someone I was talking to recently mentioned Lost Reef.

Abyss and Captain Hooks in Marathon, Innerspace in Big Pine, etc...And plenty more!

I will be diving with ABYSS to start. They were able to slide me in.

In all fairness I will not mention the operation that cancled the dive. They did contact me and offered to help find another operation. I just wish they would have not waited to the day before I flew down there to find out.

If I left a day earlier I would have not gotten their message and I would have been very upset!

I have to say, you're handling this a lot better than I would.

Frankly, I'm pretty shocked that someone would just decide not to go out. You know, these holidays are planned pretty far in advance.

Good for you that you are keeping so cool about it.
