Well, the silicone seems to have worked. :) No more leak that I could detect. The real test will be on the next dive of course...

FTR, I don't see that as a band-aid solution. Rather the opposite, I see it as a permanent fix while I see trying to fix the leak by reseating the lenses etc as a band-aid solution - after all, the mask developed the leak on its own, so after fixing it "the proper way", who says that it's not gonna reappear?

Sounds like you've got everything in order, glad you could fix it :)

In case the problem reoccurs...

How did those optical lenses get in there? In our area, when you want to have a mask with lens inserts like that, the dive shops all refer you to a local specialist in eye wear for athletes. He does a great job and is especially good at taking care of problems. (Athletes tend to crumple their eye wear, etc.) If you were in our area, I would suggest that you go see him. If he was the one who put them in for you in the first place, he would fix it for free. If not, the charge would be nominal. Talk to you dive shop and see if they can recommend someone like that in your area.

I would use the same silicon for fish tanks and try the outside since if it releases fumes it may irritate or fog glass if on inside. Would not hurt to post in the Mares forum and see what Zak suggests.

In my case, the lenses were put in by the dive shop where I've purchased both mask and lenses, which was about 5 years ago and in Austria. I have since relocated to Canada and up until last year or so, the mask was fine and leak free.
