People, lead does not go gaseous (emit fumes) at the temperatures involved on melting it down.
There are no "lead fumes" produced when smelting lead at home.

I use a cheap electric hot plate to smelt in and an old table spoon to skim the dross with.
it works fine.

Just wiki lead for properties.

A reason why lead is not used in new copper water pipe construction anymore is people drink the water.

A reason why lead is not used in tin cans anymore is people eat out of the cans.

A reason why lead is used less in electronics is hazardous waste when disposing off.

Also, this really reduces everyone's exposure to lead at work, at home, environment, etc.

A common route of exposure would be handling lead and not washing hands before eating. Example, someone handling lead bullets, lead fish weights, lead car weights. Also old lead paint. Sn/Pb solder is still sold and used for tinning wires and working on electronics.

All done and dusted, much simpler than I thought. Just used a portable camping stove, melted the lead, used a table spoon to scoop the impurities from the top, and poured it into the mould. Simple as!
