Is there any reason not to put lead weight in tank boots, other than that its not easily ditchable?

I would have to use a tank boot. Not a good solution while traveling.

The boot may fall off and land on your foot. :D

You might find that the weight changes your trim and forces you to be in more of head up - feet down position.

That's my intention....sort of. I'm trying to balance doubles.

I use ankle weights on my doubles to trim them out. Works like a charm. If you pay attention to where the buckle is placed they are ditchable too. I place the weights right above the boots. LP sells ankle weights you can fill yourself. I use about 1lbs of lead shot in each weight. I use 2 weights on each tank. One ankle weight is not long enough to go all the way around the tank.

I would replace "not easily" with "not" (short of ditching your rig)... anyway, if the rig is balanced then non-ditchable won't matter

Leaving aside the question of whether tank boots are a good thing or not, will the boot fit properly with some lead in it? I guess you could fit some shot in the gaps...

It's not going to put the weight much lower than if it were on your waist band though, is the small difference worth the trouble? Maybe Jet fins with spring straps would help, if you're not using them already

Just thinking out loud

Why do you want your tanks to be heavier all the time? Don't you just need the extra weight during the dive? Is the boot drainable? If so I doubt you'll be able to fit anything heavy enough to change much without it falling through the draining slots. I chose the ankle weights for the best of both worlds, the weight I need during a dive and not having to handle heavier tanks all the time. Other people handle my tanks also and I'm sure they don't want them any heavier than they already are.

One easy solution I have seen people do is stuff a few (however many you need) smaller soft weights in between the tanks and under the back plate.

You can also get from XS a soft V-weight pouch that will go in there, too. It holds a maximum of 5 pounds of lead shot, and with that much shot in it, it is a tough stuff in that space. The problem with buying an empty soft weight pouch is that you may find it close to impossible to find lead shot to put in it. I assumed I could just go to a hunting store to pick some up, but I found out hunting with lead shot is illegal in our state.
