That is one of many GOOD reasons to support your LDS. Again, there are a number of reasons that the gear is less expensive, but warranty and free life time parts (reg service kits), current version, professional training, many offer a free pool try out and if you don't like it exchange it or refund. If it has to shipped back to mfg. you can use something else in the mean time. We all like to save money, but quality gear and training stays long after the discounted price is gone. The store also assumes the liability of the gear after they assemble the gear. They are aware of ALL recalls and service issues.
The old senerio... boy he/she sure got a great deal on that discontinued gear, to bad they wasn't aware of the ???? issue. sure will miss them!
and I don't even own a store. I'm sure they're many other reasons that I haven't thought of.
And as one person said, they don't have what I am looking for, why, because if everyone buys on line the store can't afford the keep stocking gear that they can't move, all because they saved $50 bucks from some wholesaler that bought inventory from a store that went out of business. Very sad!

It's false statements like this that fuel the online fights. Lets stick with factual information, not fairy tales.

Yet another internet lie. :shakehead:

not a lie, fact!

Post your "facts" with verifiable details. The old "I heard from so-and-so that his cousin's brother's uncle did..." does not a fact make.

I do work in a store and see this all the time, so it might not be verifiable to you, but it is not heresay AT ALL!
You seem to have a very strong opinion and thats ok, I do as well and pehaps the "fairy tale" as you described it is a bad description of what could happen, it is the point and reasons that manufacturers require a "brick and mortar" store. The gear after all is life support. I see from your stats that you are a military emt, rescue what ever. Would you like to have a peice of gear that could be substandard? I think not. Not all gear purchased on line is sub standard, but the point is there none the less.
The quality and training stays long after the "good deal" is gone.
We all have an opinions and I'm not trying to start a heated discussion with any one, but I am very much on the side of the LDS as it gives me a place to learn and teach from.
If that costs a little extra to keep them around, so be it.
I will continue to go where I want and you do the same, thats the beauty of being an American.
As a side note, thank you for protecting that freedom, wether we agree or not!! Semper Fi!

This is my point. You are posting a "what could happen", not a fact. A fact would be naming a dive accident where a diver was bent or died beacuase they bought from LP, ST, or any other online scuba gear seller.

it is the point and reasons that manufacturers require a "brick and mortar" store. The gear after all is life support.

The "its life support" arguement is pretty weak at best. I can get my gear online, and I can mail it back for yearly maintanence. They use the same trained techs as your B&S shops. In fact, most online sellers ARE B&M shops.

It's posts like this that are blantanly false and fuel the flame wars. The Items bought online are the EXACT same items being sold in your shop. There is no "sub standard" dive gear market that these places buy from. The "point" is false.

Where do you think we (fire, emt, military) research our gear purchases from? There are no "local rescue gear sellers". We find many items in trade magazines, word of mouth, and <gasp> online.

The quality and training stays long after the "good deal" is gone.
Gear is gear and training is training. I don't mind paying a quality instructor for his time to take a class. Selling classes at a loss while over charging for gear to make up the difference is just bad business practice.

I like having good discusions, but if I see the rumor mill showing up I will call it out. I never minded paying more to a local shop, but I won't let one rip me off or lie to me.
Maybe we can meet for dive one of these days, and "thank you for protecting that freedom, wether we agree or not!! " (even if you are a marine :mooner: )

I am sorry, but I wasn't the one that took a leak in your bowl of cheerios. It won't matter what I say or how I say it, you are going to have a problem with what I post. FINE!
I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience at some store. They're not all like that.
As where the military gets there gear from, I know from a sales rep. (not heresay) that some gear comes directly from the manufacturer.
You should take your frustrations out with the store that put you in this spirited frame of mind, at least, that what a Marine would do.
I'm done with this, see ya! Semper Fi!! "Don't ask, don't tell" I really don't care, keep your pants on, my preference is female!

Wow, are you OK? One moment we are having a discusion and then you're blowing up? :dontknow:

I buy plenty of gear from my LDS, but I use online shops also. I have no frustrations about my gear or my shopping, or my LDS.

Have a good life.

Relax. She is telling us what her sexual preferences are. That's all.
