We are thinking about heading down to LBTS tomorrow for the first time. How has vis been lately? Anything else we need to concern ourselves with? We'll probably only make it to the 2nd reef.

Make sure you have a dive flag, and quarters for the meters.. Only a few parking spaces.

Datura or Hibiscus are viable for parking.. come early cause parking fills quick...
Gold Coast @ Tel (954) 616-5909 can give you the latest report. Normally Steve posts it on Meetup but not sure if it's back up yet due to idiots and a DDOS.

Couple rollers, but I don't see any white caps. Might be bumpy, but is doable..

In addition to calling Steve at gold coast, the boca beach report will usually give you a good indication of how conditions will be at LBTS. Generally speaking, if the Boca report says snorkeling conditions are poor, that means LBTS will be fair... if they say fair, it means LBTS will be good, etc etc. I usually only do it if the current conditions are generally flat and have been flat for a day or two. Otherwise vis can be very poor on the inner reefs. Vis usually improves on the outer reef marked by the mooring balls, but that is a bit of a swim. I love diving the outer reef, but I usually think to myself, whose idea was this and I need to get a small boat about halfway through the swim, but the outer reef is definitely worth it.

We ended up not gearing up after looking at the beach. We drove to a LDS and spoke to the owner. He didn't have any vis reports on the day and we didn't see any dive flags out, so we opted to hit starbucks and drive home. :(

We were both pretty high on our dive before driving down, so it wasn't that big of a deal. We had an absolutely awesome 1 tank boat dive on Kayalami. Had we not done that, I would have definitely got in the water for whatever conditions.

i dove yesterday mar. 9 2014 in LBTS from 12noon to 1330 and the vis was horrible..out past the pier the vis was about 10 ft at best.. had to do a slow crawl on the bottom out there and back....seamed to have a clay fine soot consistency perhaps due to the new beach restoration. sat. dive vis was much better at 30- 40 ft....guess you never know.
