Hi everyone,

I have a question. I have a trip coming up in a month or so to meet up with an Aussie friend and go to Tonga. I originally wasnt planning on this being a diving trip, so I wasnt even going to bring my gear. My flights from the US pass through Fiji, Nadi, and I found out I could layover for several days at no extra cost. Then thing is I am coming from the East Coast of the US so the flying is already hell.

My question is, is there any good diving near Nadi? I would hate to come all this way, pass through Fiji and not dive. THanks in advance.

I would definitely get some diving in. I personally did not dive off of Viti Levu, but there is very good diving to be had.

These may help:

note that Wananavu is 2 hours from Nadi

talks about Beqa Lagoon and other Viti Levu sites.

I'm sure others will chime in!

Absolutely. I had the pleasure of diving in Fiji in January and the conditions and underwater life were fantastic. The best diving I've had so far. I would highly recommend the good folks at Subsurface Fiji (http://www.fijidiving.com/) who run day dive trips in the Mamanuca Islands area. The Mamanuca Islands are just off the big island of Viti Levu (where Nadi is). I stayed at the Malolo Island Resort (http://www.maloloisland.com/) and it was a very nice resort with friendly staff, good food and a great happy hour.

Have a great time.

Cheers,
Mike

Try Kai Viti Divers operating out of Wananavu Resort near Rakiraki at the northern tip of Viti Levu - about a 3 hour drive from Nadi. Marvelous diving and a very nice resort.
