I'm pretty sure Lou (Loudives) and Nancy are in Cozumel right now staying at the Reef Club. I don't know if he has (or cares to have for that matter, LOL) Internet access there. They've used Reef Club a bunch of times, and I think he has a reveiw from not too long ago. I know he has used Bottom Time, and thinks highly of them. He's recommended them to me in the past. Might be worth trying to Pm him.

He has a report titled "Sand Dollar is OK" currently on this page.

Is Fiesta Americana better? The reason we want to go with an all-inclusive hotel is to not worry about where we're eating! When we have options, it just makes it more complicated. ;-) I've stayed in an AI before in Cabo and loved it.

I've done the AI 4-5 times in Cozumel at the Melia and I recommend against AI. Much better food is found around town. Get what you want each night and enjoy Cozumel. There are plenty of highly recommended restaurants to enjoy.

My wife and I have stayed at the Fiesta Americana two out of the three times we've been to Cozumel in the last two years and find it to be very relaxing and the food is adequate (buffet). We also make it a point to go into town and eat dinner a couple of times every trip and it is true that the food there is far better. I would recommend finding a small fast boat operation to dive with and making sure they will pick you up at the Fiesta Americana pier if you elect to stay there. Its too bad Blue XTSea is booked as that is the operation we always use and its excellent. Also realize Fiesta Americana is several miles south of town so it will require a ten dollar or so taxi ride each way to get to dinner and enjoy the nightlife.

Best of all have fun and enjoy the Cozumel diving, its wonderful. Oh and get DAN!!

Remember you’re in Mexico on vacation so just enjoy your self. Be flexible to all issues non life threatening. All resorts, shops, dive ops and folks working for them have good days and bad days. If you step back from normal knee-jerk reactions (I have been known to suffer from at times ) you may notice almost every place has people trying their best. I like the southern resorts for short boat rides; I like the town locations because I like to walk around town. I love the independent shops for added customer service and providing competition to the on-site shops. I also use on site dive shops for conveinance or the small shops being booked when I book at last second. I have had good and bad dive masters all over the world. I usually expect to be responsible for myself while diving while also looking around to insure no one else is in crisis(rescue diver training-Take it) but know a great dive master can make a boring sand dive interesting by pointing out small sea life.

Food? I always eat to much every trip regardless of staying AI or not.

Love your advice. Sums up my views about Coz.

I tend to prefer non-all-inclusive as Cozumel has so many great restaurants. Perhaps you'll reconsider.
I've stayed at Palace (highend, close to town, all-inclusive, has spa, no beach but has house reef, should be wired for high-speed internet), Coral Princess (middle to highend, should be all-inclusive, has spa, small beach and house reef but very, very far from town), Caribe Blue (middle of the road, small not very good restaurant on site, small beach, a little farther from town than Palace) and Hotel Flamingo (Cheaper, has restaurant and great bar on site, has a computer for guest use (for fee) in town). I guess it depends on your budget, I have been very happy all all, although I won't return to Coral Princess due to distance (taxi is a must).
Bummer BlueXT (my favorite) is fully booked. If I were in similar shoes, I'd consider these, which have been well-regarded (there're are definitely more to this list, i just don't know them):
Liquid Blue
Deep Blue
Aldora

Do enjoy your trip (weather, diving, food and all). Dive safely.

GREAT post and what a refreshing attitude! Thank you!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We are getting DAN insurance. We're also keeping our reservations at Reef Club and diving with Liquid Blue Feb. 25-26. We arrive at 12:40pm on Feb. 24th. If you know of any dive ops that can take us diving that afternoon, let me know! Liquid Blue was also not sure of a night dive on Feb. 25th so let me know about that as well. Looking forward to our trip.
