We leave on tuesday for Utila and I am trying to be a minimalist when packing. We will be there 15 days.

This is what I have so far (as far as cloths).

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I am missing?

One wide brimmed hat
Couple bandannas (lots of uses)
2 pairs capilene boxers
2-3 pairs synthetic socks – mostly wore sandals
Chacos and one pair hiking shoes
2 syn. T-shirts
1 travel shirt - l/s, super lightweight, button-up, with SPF protection …something like this: Columbia Men's Tall Omni-Dry Silver Ridge Long Sleeve Shirt from Campmor
Pair of convertible pants
Pair of shorts/bathing suit
A camp towel that dries fast for the showering.

Personally I would skip the socks and UW and add another pair of shorts... I always buy the windshorts with built-in mesh... they double as shorts and a bathing suit and come complete with u/w

But to each his own...

All nylon all the time? I prefer cotton. Your profile doesnt say and the response hinges on the answer: are you male or female?

I think that people who think synthetics are too hot haven't tried really high tech microfabrics - they're incredible. My husband sweats like there's no tomorrow and absolutely loves wicking t-shirts. He plays competitive racquetball in them and they keep him cool and dry quickly, unlike cotton t-shirts that get soaked, stay soaked, and cling.

My packing list is #15 on the CA Thorntree Forum if you're interested: Central America Branch FAQ ... - Thorn Tree Travel Forum - Lonely Planet

Happy trails!

Try Under Armour. I'm a Canadian living in the Philippines and there is no way I would wear cotton. UA is pretty much all I wear, they have lots of styles and colors and are easy to wash and dry very quickly. No need to iron either, just hang up.

UA is great, so are the Nike Dri-fit, and similar shirts/shorts. If you don't want to pay the full price, swing by a Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc. and find the gear there- I grabbed several pairs of Columbia shorts- the water/hiking quick dry shorts for $10 instead of the usual $45 and several Dri-Fit t-shirts for under $10 instead of the regular prices as well. Even found a Billabong rashguard (in snazzy blue/grey camo) at Marshall's. Nothing like some pre-trip bargain hunting!

Maybe we'll see you there- we'll be down for 3 weeks starting Sunday!
