OK, this isn't the most pressing issue but something that has always annoyed me. In the 4 or 5 regs I've used the dust cap has been significantly shorter than the span of the tank valve. Meaning when I set up the reg I must crank the stem a half dozen or more turns to open up enough to go onto the tank valve, then back again when breaking down. It would be nice if the cap was the same size so it only took a few turns.

Are larger dust caps available? Has anybody solved it differently? Is there a reason why it is the way it is? Am I the only one that is annoyed by this?

Is your dust cap hard plastic or soft rubber?

I think on one of my regs that I had to do this with the hard plastic one, but on my DIN/Yoke converter, the dust cap I got for it is soft rubber and doesn't require you cranking it down as much. I "think" the soft rubber one was taller, but I'd have to go check it to give you an positive answer.

I think it was from Innovative Scuba (manufacturer/distributor), but I'm not sure as I threw away the packaging long ago. Got it at www.divesports.com though. (I don't think they have it on their website, but they had it in their store and can ship it to you. Just call to ask). But you should be able to pick it up at any LDS that sells them.

When I converted to DIN, this problem went away. :D Of course you still have a dust cap you would use on DIN, but it's a screw on cap and doesn't require moving the yoke screw up and down.

All mine are soft, both cone shaped and cylinder shaped. I haven't actually measured the lengths of anything or counted the turns, it just seems excessive. But I'm a real lazy SOB. :eyebrow:

I did a google for the Inovative scuba dust cap.

This top one in this pic is what the one I bought looks like

however, it doesn't really "look" that much taller, so this might not be a solution for you.

I can check tonight if you need me to to see the difference.

I've got one that looks like this too.

.

I'll see which one is "taller".

However, if one of these doesn't solve the problem, I've got a feeling that taller ones would be hard to find as I doubt many regulator manufacturers set up seperate lines for these things. They won't spend the resources to "design, engineer, manufacture, package and distriubte" a product like this when they can buy them in bulk for prob 5 cents each.

There can't be more than 2 or 3 companies that make all of these worldwide.
