I can't help but laugh out loud anytime i hear about 'normal doctors vs diving doctors'. I mean is it really that obvious that we are insane?

Sorry, it just slipped out.
What I meant to say of course was, "those doctors that we normally encounter in our daily life...".
Very few of us ever have reason to meet with doctors specialised in diving medicine so automatically you are not the normal ones.

Many people believe that divers aren't normal anyway, so why should the doc's be different?!

Just as a follow-up.

The wednesday before we left for our vacation, we asked the question again. The surgeon said, "If you feel up to it, there is no reason why you can't do it. Just use common sense."

Well, we did. My wife was feeling fine and ready to dive on the first thursday of our trip (12 day after surgery). She did just fine. And was quite happy to be able to dive. We managed to get in about 10 dives on the trip and had a great time. She was very happy to have seen her first turtles on a dive.
