A few of us went out to Lanes Cove yesterday. It was a beautiful sunny and warm morning with calm seas and great conditions 54° and 20 vis. Thats the good part.
We came out of the water after the first dive to find three Gloucester police cars in the lot ticketing the eight cars that were parked along the wall and along the opposite side along the grassy area. I asked if this was a new policy since we have been parking here for years and have never been bothered. The head cop said parking has never been legal in that lot. He also said that from now on hed be towing cars rather than ticketing them. He seemed to have a bit of an attitude.
Naturally, after the boys finished ticketing the cars, they headed up to the rocks to rummage through the coolers looking for illegal lobsters. Of the 13 divers at the site, I was the only one doing any hunting and I had just gotten out of the water with eight bugs still in the bag. I hadnt even had a chance to double check them when I went up to see what all the commotion was about. The head cop went through my catch quite thoroughly but all was in order. The funny part is, he never asked to see my permit?
I did ask the fellow were would he consider it permissible to park. He said there is an area on the road in. There is a circle with some flowers in it. Its over by were the kayaks are. I looked at it briefly on the way out and Im not sure wed be safe there either.
I have to say, these guys were out for the sole purpose of harassing divers yesterday. They showed up in force looking for trouble. I know thats nothing new around Cape Ann but it still ticks me off every time I see it happen. Its shameful the way they treat people there. End of rant - Back to diving.
