I have a housing from Video Vault that I picked up for a decent price.

It has an old Sony CCD V11 8mm camera that is used up.

This housing controls the camera via a LANC connection which gives me a broad range of options for cameras.

I have quite a bit of room to work with so size isn't to critical.

I would love to upgrade to a HDD HD camera, but It doesn't appear that the manufactures are using LANC on much anymore.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for a more modern camera that has LANC?

Sony HC-7 uses the LANC connector and that's how I control it in my Backscatter Top Dawg housing. Oops, you said "HDD" camcorder... the HC-7 uses tape.

One other critical point to consider is the port to lens alignment. Although you have a lot of room in the housing, the newer HDR series camera lens is top center on the camera body. The V11 (assuming it's like an FX230 that I saw once) is lower center. So you may not be able to get the camera low enough in the housing to work.

Although it might work since the HDR camera body is so much shorter vertically than the V11. The center point of the lens needs to line up with the center point of the port or you'll get distortion - assuming your housing doesn't have a flat port.

What housing do you have?

The HDD cameras use a combo video/remote jack. I believe (check with someone who knows) that this also accepts LANC signals. However it's a different style plug so will require an adapter cable. You might call Light & Motion, I believe they probably sell one for their Stingray HD housing since it works with both tape and HDD models.

fwiw, the only camera mfr. still providing LANC is Sony. And only on the better models in each format.

Just going by the pictures, the form-factor of the CCD-V11 looks similar to the HC42 (DCR-HC42). The HC42 is a DV camera, has a LANC jack and looks similar in height and lens placement but thinner side-to-side.

In the end, you're probably going to have to walk around to camera stores with your housing in tow. I can't see any other way to get a good match.

Nice to know this and I hope that it is true. I know one day I will want to replace my HC1000.

Maybe a call or email to L&M stating your housing type would bring some help from them. Maybe they could tell you what camcorders would fit it.

Here is what I have worked out for now.

Sony TRV19 with wide angle lens, Ebay $50 LCD display in back. I plan to upgrade the camera at some point.

I had plenty room to mount the camera where I could rotate the front w/domeport into alignment and redrill the latches.

These are screen grabs from video, so not great res.

I am still learning, but I am having fun.

I need to polish the dome port, it has some light scratches

Really curious as to how the camera and X-scooter balance underwater. The camera is one big package!
