Anyone know the average lake temps in western Mass. this time of year?

Jeff

What lakes are you referring to in Western Mass?

Our dive club (Pioneer Valley Dive Club) is located in Western Mass. we often use the Brownstone Quarry in Portland, CT for training and general diving and recreation.

We also do Sunday morning dives in the Connecticut River north of Springfield and that stays about 750 F this time of year from the surface to the bottom.

Where are you located in Western Mass? Feel free to send me a PM. It is always nice to meet new divers in Western Mass.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I'm not in MA, I'm in Maine, but I'll be in western MA this weekend. I'm doing a photo shoot, one of the locations is a waterfall, and I understand there is a lake or pool at the bottom. I'm going to see if it's worth a dive after the shoot --unfortunately, I don't know exactly where it is.

No big deal, probably won't be worth a dive anyway --I'll bring a 5mil suit and a 5mil jacket --that should cover me if it's even worth getting wet.

A safe guess based on my local conditions in southern NH would be 65 to 75 degrees in rivers and shallow lakes, dropping as low as 45 depending on depth below the thermocline, if there is one.

The 5mil sounds about right. Gloves and hood might be wise. If they're too warm, you could always remove them underwater and put them in a catch bag.

New dive sites can be fun. Enjoy!

How about a brief dive report when you come back? Might be interesting. :)

I 5 mm jacket over a full 5 mm suit will be fine as long as you also use a hood and gloves.
