I am going to be diving the Straits of Mackinaw in the middle of August. I want to take a day or two and tow the boat up to Lake Superior, Whithefish Point or Munising for some diving. What I need to know is there any decent boat launch in the area and someplace to stay the night (with somewhere to park the boat and trailer). Also, what wrecks you would recomend (130 ft and less depth) and are they bouyed or not. I have Chris Kohl's book but it dosen't say if the wrecks are bouyed.

This isn't answering your question, but it is a nice writeup of whitefish point. Maybe send the author an email asking who he chartered through...

Munising is a nice day trip. There are two wrecks by the boat launch (right downtown near the school) that are decent. Then there's a couple of shallow (most are scattered but the Burmuda is a decent shallow dive). All wrecks by the boat launch are bouyed every year (but if you call Pete, he can give you the low-down). Are you looking for a campground or a hotel in that area?

Dokie, we are going to me in Munising the first week on August, have you ever dove under the Miners Castle, we heard it was great, but I didn't know if it was really worth hauling our gear down that trail.

We are diving with Pete's group on Monday, and then going to venture out on our own and do a couple wrecks from our boat.

Thanks!

Cman, forgot to reply to you, Munising has a good boat ramp, just past the high school, we leave or trailer there for a week or more at a time. Just make sure you pay your launch fee and it on the trailer....we put it in a Ziploc bag so if it rains.

But we take our truck back to the marina so we can get around town.

Thanks to all for the replys. I'll call the local ops to check on the bouys before we head up there. We usualy stay at motels but we could camp too so I'd like any info you could give me.
