I'm a Fish!
I'm looking to see if anyone has attempted to dive Lake Limestone and if so what are the conditions typically during this time of the year what was the viz/temp. I couldn't find a definite answer on Scubaboard. Thank you!

Do you have a particular desire to dive Limestone? The lake is fairly shallow, and the bottom is mostly clay. Diving it right now might be treacherous due to the localized flooding we've experienced in the Central Texas area.

Absolutely. Always looking for a new place to dive. I already read up on the lake on the Parks dept. website. Just wanted to get feedback from divers who have actually made the plunge.

Lake Limestone is owned by the Brazos River Authority (BRA), and I know the Lake Project Manager, and asked him about diving. This is his response:

"The visibility at its best is no more than a two-three feet, and nothing of interest to see.

Also, diving is restricted by regulation to within 150 feet of the shoreline.

There was initial interest in the 80’s as divers tried the lake, but I have not seen a diver here in years other than search and recover."

Here is the section from BRA's lake regulations that pertains to Scuba diving:

Pursuant to the authority granted by §51.127 of the Texas Water Code, the following additional rules shall apply to scuba diving in BRA waters:

  1. Scuba diving is allowed in the Lakes only in areas within 150 feet of a shoreline, except for emergency rescue or salvage operations or for special events for which exceptions may be granted by the BRA. Scuba diving in other areas is prohibited.
  2. Divers shall display a warning flag or sign indicating "diver down" on a buoy or boat in the immediate area where scuba diving is in progress. The sign must be visible from a distance of 100 feet. Warning flags and signs shall be removed as soon as all divers return to the boat or shore.
  3. A "diver down" flag shall be red with a diagonal white stripe and shall be at least 15 inches square or, if larger, may be rectangular shaped.
  4. Scuba diving shall not be conducted in areas that will block or interfere with normal boat traffic.
I've never dived there, but been at the lake many times. Let me know if you have any questions (which I will try to answer as best as I can).
