I know this thread is old, be in case someone visits this thread in the future. A great place to dive comfortably at Lake George, who are not familiar with the lake, is at Hearthstone State Campground

Hearthstone Point - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

You enter the water near a picnic table area and cement wall. A very small beach area to the left of the Campground Beach. Some Dive shops use this as a certification site. The EMTs also use it for training. There is a Cessna plane and a vehicle in 40 foot and 50 foot respectively. Lots of fish to see!
