Thanks for the info blue steal and MaxBottomtime. You too Cody :) Chris and I checked the swell model and seems like it's coming in from the NW.

Anyone's thoughts on whether Old Marineland or Laguna (Shaw's or Crescent) is a better bet for tomorrow morning?

Laguna has notorious surge anytime there is any swells because it is so shallow. I wouldn't bother with that. ML is a crap shoot too though! If it were me I'd try for ML with a backup of Vets.

Phil, you've dived Marineland about a zillion times. With your experience what would an entry be like on a day like today? Do able? Worth it? Or will it just be murky and surgy if you made it out?
I wouldn't have gone in today. The waves were just big enough and the intervals short enough to make for a dirty, surgy dive. I'm hoping for Sunday morning. The waves at Vet's were already building beyond the end of the pier, so I will be doing home improvement tomorrow. :(

Laguna (Shaw's Cove at least) was totally doable today. Some surge (nothing major), decent vis (at least 10', in some spots 15'), and TONS of fish (especially juveniles) swimming about. Only issue was moderate surf on entry and exit. Definitely glad we went. PV tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for their input and advice! Yup, I had a great time! Though I did go down on the exit...and got sand on all my gear. Was well worth it though. Tons of garibaldi of all sizes...and baby senorita (must be the season!).

I was at Vet's earlier. Moderate surf with muddy water. RAT Beach had occasional overhead surf. Two divers exiting at Malaga Cove told me they had zero vis in the kelp. One of them fell several times during the exit. Hopefully the southside will be better.

Meant to add that Jen and I hit Marineland on Sunday and conditions were absolutely wonderful. Small surf, mild surge, and quite decent visibility (at least 15' horizontally, over 35' vertically). A very, very enjoyable dive. Just love this site.
