Howdy from NJ!

May be in Laguna Niguel next week, and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a local dive operator that would be good for a newbie to get out with for a dive or two.

Thanks in advance - Ray

While I do not believe there are any boats that leave right out of the Orange County area, you could take the Sundiver out of Long Beach. It's fairly close and Ray is a great Captain. We'll be out with them this Saturday and you are welcome to join us, but I realize that you may not be here until after this weekend.

What are the dates that you'll be here?

Maybe some of the locals can show you some good shore diving in Laguna Beach. You could rent any gear you need from Laguna Sea Sports, which is about a block from the beach.

Welcome to the SoCal forum!

Bring all of your east coast thermal. Water temps have been in the 48 to 53 F range last few dives. SoCal water is almost as cold as NJ.

Laguna Beach is nearby and is a popular spot for beach diving. Laguna Sea Sports is the local dive shop on Pacific Coast Highway and is within easy walking distance of Shaws Cove and a couple of other popular sites. I believe if you call ahead you can arrange a dive guide through the shop if you want.

If you are in town on Saturday or Sunday and need a buddy, South Coast Divers meets each day at 7:30 AM in the Laguna Hills Mall off of El Torro Road between Macy's and Kings Fish House and heads down to Laguna Beach for a dive and then breakfast/lunch. You don't have to be a member. Newcomers and out-of-town divers are common with the group.

Let me know when you're going to be in town and we can do some bech diving at Laguna if you want

Looks like I may have jumped the gun!

Thought I was coming Saturday for a meeting starting on Monday, but now looks like I won't be able to arrive until noon on Monday and then out on Wednesday.

Appreciate the info and offer though - thanks!
