Portofino is okay - different. Most of the wildlife stays right in the christmas trees and doesn;t venture out far. At the east end of the parking lot right where you tunr in, there are two pathways through the dunes down to the beach. A few feet to the east of that are two long PVC poles. Swim out and look back to the beach. Line the poles up one in front of the other and head out about 100 yds or so and descend. We dropped right on top of them. Max depth is 17' or so, vis is extrememly variable. I would only dive it in green flag conditions though.

We booked a charter through Dr. Dive for the 2nd. Hopefully the weather and Viz cooperate lol. We plan on doing some shore dives on the 1st, starting out at Big Lagoon, or behind NAS. Prolly not alot to see, but more to just get our feet wet before moving out to Gulf side of things. Really want to get some spearfishing in.

I know the spot but still didn't find them. Last month there was only one pole.

Thanks! Maybe I will check it out later in Sept; after things settle down some.

Good to know Hetland. I have no experience with the area so will plan accordingly. There till around the 18th so, we will see.

Call the charter captains and ask them what the offshore conditions are. Even of you don't book with them, they'll still be happy to give you a report.
