I'm going to be diving out of La Paz in mid-May. Can anyone reccomend hotel/dive operateurs?

I was in La Paz last October on the liveaboard Don Jose. The diving was good, but the boat needs some work.

We went into the Baja Quest shop when we got back into town. The shop was clean, organized and the staff was very friendly. I will probably use them the next time in La Paz.

The Cortez Club/La Concha -- friends have done that. Does anyone have any current info on them?

If you stay in town at the hotel Los Arcos, I would recommend against the bungalows. Although it may sound romantic, you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in the adjoining room. The palapa roofs are also home to friendly little lizards. Now, I don't mind them (they eat bugs!), but I know some people might object..

Thanks for the info. I think I might stay at Los Arcos (La Concha apparently suffered from hurricane Marty).i'm thinking of using the Buceo Carey dive center which is very close to Los, Arcos. I'll let you know how it works out.

I plan to dive with friends one day off Catalina Island (L.A.) before Cortez. Any ideas on best dive sites, etc.

You could go over and spend the day on the Island and dive at Casino Point in Avalon, or take a day boat over from the mainland. Check out www.ladiver.com and www.californiadiveboats. My personal favorites on the boat front are the Great Escape and the Encore, but your friends might have some ideas...

I see you all over SB, I am 415Gem and i wanted to ask if you went down to La Paz or Cabo for Baja quest liveabord. What time of year is best conditions and can a better rate be had if you show up at Bajaquest office. Any Kelp ( Bad ) would be appreciated 415Gem :crafty:

...La Paz or Cabo...:

Here's a link I came across while researching my own trip to Baja. It's a travel report that includes La Paz (about halfway down.) At that time for that person, he thought Los Arcos was a bit overpriced at $85. He also comments on three other La Paz hotels.

Regarding best time to visit Los Cabos, I've discovered that September is high season. Although there don't seem to be any seasonal migrations such as whales, it's apparently a good combination of temperatures, winds, and plankton (feeding the food chain from the bottom, of course.)

Last, you've probably already seen the Cabo thread on this board.
