I have the option to go to La Paz to dive Oct 19-26th,
but not sure how much damage was done by Hurricane Odile.
Is the area recovered enough for tourism? How different will the dive conditions likely be?

I'm not 100% but... My sister and her family live in Cabo San Lucas. It is a mess they have been without power for two weeks now. Stores were looted getting groceries was a pain. She had enough and need a break from it all, they drive up to La Paz. From the sound of it they had a nice break from the craziness of Cabo. They were having a concert for hurricane relief while they were there. Check with the dive shop but sounds like you should be fine.

Info I have says La Paz is fine and would love to have visitors return. We're headed up in November - have been keeping track of the news from a wide variety of different angles and we're not changing our plans any.

Is there a dive shop in La Paz that caters to more experienced divers (as opposed to snorkelling day trips) ???

Thanks AZ! I was looking at Club Cantamar / Baja Dive Service and their web site says "Baja Diving & Service is based at Pichilingue Bay, 10 miles north of La Paz".
But when I look at Google Maps, it appears to be right in town (walking distance to bars+ restaurants -- which is nice!) .
I'm confused -- which is it?

I THINK this is where I stayed 6 years ago and I remember taking a shuttle to get to the boat. But I also remember it being pretty far from the center of town too.

Club Cantamar has two locations; a hotel downtown and the condo resort out by the ferry docks. The main Club Cantamar office is downtown.

Baja Diving & Service appears to be affiliated with with Club Cantamar. It has an office downtown as well. BD&S runs Club Cantamar boats and dive ops. I enjoyed diving with the BD&S crew.

We stayed out at the condo resort last October. Preferences vary, but we liked staying closer to the where the boats were located. It does take a few minutes to get to and from town. We ate most of our meals at the condo resort restaurant; the food was good. The condo resort is getting a little 'long-in-the-tooth' and could use some increased maintenance, but we've stayed in worse places.

The downtown hotel looked okay.
