hey all-
reading on other posts about a black water dive offered by big island divers...
can anyone give a few more details on this dive? is it where you hang from a rope in deep water?
what is the set-up (how does it work, how do you stage on the rope?) also what do you see (typically)
we'll be there this september, and it sounds interesting... thanks!

Big Island Divers does this trip on Monday nights.
Call them for details as they change frequently.

They will do it anytime they have people. No more than four. You run out to beyond the 1000 fathom curve (thats 6000 foot deep water!) then they lover a 40 foot line with an anchor on the bottom. You are clipped off to this with aten foot leash. This is mandatory as you are in total blackness and disorientation, seperation from the boat and rapid descents to very deep water are all a real possability. You then turn on your lights. All kinda cool little jellies (Im not even going to try to spell them all) swim by. I got the holly grail and got pics of a pelagic seahorse! There was also one close encounter with a swordfish. Lights are mandatory (the boat has them) and I wouldn't do it without a camera. Some cool awsome stuff there. Im going to PM Matt and see if he will repost his video link. matt leads the dives.
As cool as the mants dive is, the black water is that much better!

This is one of Peter's requests for his birthday trip in January.
