Who would like to visit Komodo NP (Komodo & Padar) islands for that much? The new entrance fee starts on 1st of August , 2022. Nuts!

No mention about Rinca island KNP in Loh Buaya, yet. My group would be there on 28th of July. We’ll see what happens then. I’ll post the updated news here.

It sounds like the end for many diving operations who have been closed for the last two years

depends if this will apply also to scuba in the waters nearby or only to the land portions of the two islands and also if it is a flat fee for a certain period or per day like the old permit fee

The new fee will not apply to the WHOLE Komodo National Park, only Komodo Island and Padar Island. Govt presses ahead with Komodo price hike
It doesn't apply to Rinca Island, where most divers go see Komodo as it's closest to Labuan Bajo and so ideal for the last day of trip before flight.

FYI, capacity controls are also in place for Komodo and Padar Islands. So the high fee is a market mechanism for capacity control (in addition to an online booking system).

In a world where lift ticket in Australia is US$125/day, $250 is not too big a deal. And I'm Indonesian! Rinca Island is still normal price. Else, they've got komodos at various zoos. No biggie and definitely the whining is not warranted. Geez.

Old news and no longer accurate

All things in perspective. Same about divers complaining of $50 baggage fees.

Hope the money is being spent to maintain the attraction.

We were in Padar & Loh Liang (Komodo National Park) on August 1st. Business as usual. No new price increase was implemented, yet. There were quite numbers of visitors there (around 50+) and 4-5 boats came in that morning.

We were in Labuan Bajo the day before (July 31st) to pickup 2 dive buddies coming from Jakarta. Many of dive shops were closed to support the boycott of the price increase.

There were some talk about some demonstrations & blocking tour boats from going to Padar & Komodo island on August 1st. We left Labuan Bajo the night before and headed to see sunset on top of Padar and then mooring & staying for the night in Loh Liang harbor. So, we didn’t see those demo & blockages in Labuan Bajo harbor.

Those rangers, guides, local souvenir & snack shop workers, who live In Komodo island need the tourist money after > 2 years of not having foreign visitors. So, they were gladly to see us.

We didn’t go to Loh Buaya (Rinca side of Komodo National Park)because it was still closed.

Yes, the 'strike' meant govt backed down. What's new - whole export policy can be overturned in a matter of hours, what's with measly entrance fee.

Rejoice, it's only 10$ til Dec 2022.

The initial price hike was ridiculous and was soon suspended after a "mild" demonstration. Perhaps all concerned parties will sit down and comes up with an acceptable figure.
