I was there in August three years ago. The north was warm, probably 80 - 82 degrees. I wore a 3mm with either a 2 mm cap or a 3 mm hood on night dives. The south was cold, in the sixties. I wore a 7mm with a hood. I was okay, but would have suffered had we spent more than 2 days in the south.

We're going back this year, again in August. With airline weight restrictions, I'm seriously considering bringing just a 3mm with a 3/5mm hooded vest. When I think back on my last trip there, I wonder if this is a mistake. On the other hand, I've spent 3 years surfing in California water, so I'm hoping I'm a little more adapted to the cold than I was.
