^^^ Barely a few locations good or safe for snorkelers. If you want to visit all the great diving spots at Komodo most are either unsafe with currents or too deep or both. Else you spend all your days diving only at the snorkel sites and skip the great ones (unless there is a separate speedboat for snorkel trips) - For the money spent getting there and the daily cost of the boat with limited diving not worth it tbh.

Can you safely snorkel at Batu Balong? Crystal Rock? Castle Rock? Shotgun? And will it safe and enjoyable?

Gilli is a great option on the other hand as mentioned above.

Yes, Yes, probably not, yes, and it's very safe and enjoyable with the right liveaboard operation as mentioned above! And by the way there are sooo many more amazing dive sights in Komodo than just those mentioned and you can snorkel those as well.

Batu Bolong is probably one of the best spots in the world to snorkel. Even when I'm diving there I tell the guide to leave me in the shallows to spend half of my dives in between 1-5m deep. Sheltered behind the rock with no current. Unfortunately they enforced a limited number of divers policy hence it has been closed for snorkelers a few years ago.

Have seen a guy with his t(w)een son snorkeling on Castle rock, they were hanging to a 10m rope tied to a mooring buoy (?), floating against the current and looking down for the action... not for the faint hearted though...

Was at Batu Bolong 3 weeks ago, the last 10-15 minutes of the dive was in the shallows 1m-8m. I enjoyed that part of the dive the most this time around, and got my best footage.

But is it safe for children and genteel family type experiences? A diver and could possibly manage staying safe from the currents, perhaps not the children that want to joyfully splash around and chase fish unmindful of any hidden risks…

I have some nice videos from this site as well … must upload it someday..

We went in summer 2022 with Wunderpus Mimic liveaboard.
Our daughter was snorkeling and son, husband and I diving. They sent a snorkeling guide just for her.

Told our friends to go with Mimic for their snorkeling trip and they loved it as well.
Do you have a trip report with Mimic? :)
