Hi

I would really like to return to Komodo and will have the opportunity to visit in Jan 14.

If anyone knows whether this is a good time for Komodo, I would really appreciate some guidance. What are the +/-'s of diving then?

Many thanks

John

Jan is a good time for South Komodo.
You should have calm conditions, blue warm water in the South. Normally the south is cold, has greenish water with reduced viss. There are not many boats around in Jan. You may be the only boat in horseshoe bay at this time of year.

Jan is not a good time for North Komodo, can be windy & rough. You may not be able to dive in the North during this time of year.

You should also note that generally Nov-Mar is cyclone season in North West Australia. If there is a cyclone of Oz you may get large swell in Komodo.
I had a South Komodo trip last March(mid March). Due to a cyclone off Oz we had really rough conditions at the start of our tip. We had to hide in sheltered bays. Once we got to horeshoe bay , conditions improved. We were the only boat there for 3 days. Amazing diving. However i thought there was more fish life when i was there in Oct (with cold & green Water)
in summary , i would consider a return to Komodo in Jan , knowing that we would spend most of the trip in the South. IMHO the South has some of the best diving in the whole of Indo.
If you want to enjoy the north & South i would go April or Oct.

that is really helpful. Thank you.

I do agree, the diving in the south is wonderful, but komodo is a long hike from here, so when I return, I'll pick a season when I can see north and south.

cheers

I believe Komodo season for liveaboards is from may to sept. most of the boats are in RA then, maybe consider going there?
