Hi,

I'm on Gili Air right now, and was on my way to Flores for a yet to be booked liveaboard in Komodo. However, a few local DMs here are advising against it, as the rainy season has begun and this supposedly affect dive quality in Komodo drastically.
Any takes or experiences here ?

Alternatives - I have two more weeks in Indonesia and would also consider traveling to other areas for good diving (and trekking) - North Sulawesi also seems not to be the best time of year, Raja Ampat is a long haul from Gili's, .. Central Maluku ? South Sulawesi, combining with trekking Tana Toraja ? Will fly back home from Bali, so will also consider heading back there earlier.

thanks !

If you are set on Komodo Scuba Junkies has a new resort there that you might check out. They have some really good soft opening prices currently and also have dorm rooms for even more budget minded divers .They are located in a more central location so at this time of year when the North is less diveable they can dive the south. I'm heading there in January and their location close to the south is one big reason I chose to dive with them. I prefer the Southern sites to the Northern ones.

Why not Lembeh? It may not be high season there now but the Straight is usually protected from winds. I'm also headed back there in January for the 4th
time as "I Love me some Lembeh"

And do spend some time diving Bali since your flying out of there, Nusa Lembongan for nice reefs and drift diving, and Tulamben for the Liberty wreck and great muck diving.

Greetings Krabbeke,

Adelaar just returned from Komodo to Bali on the 17th of December. From the 7th-17th we experienced 2 rain showers, both between 4:00-5:30; which started just after our 3rd dive and ended just before our night dive (perfect timing). Both downpours lasted about an hour and were intense, but the rest of the trip was fine. In fact, sitting here in Bali since we've returned I've seen more rain than on the entire trip in Komodo.

P.S. Manta Alley in Langkoi was spectacular 84f and 100' visibility and curios Manta's. Wherever your travels take you we hope you enjoy your Indo dive holiday.

Season's Greetings
