It would be interesting to hear @Ian Yarwood's response as he features in this article a bit.

I tried to see if there was any granular OZ data re Koh Tao but only found country wide data.

Thailand represents just over 4 times the risk of death for Australians than Indonesia. Couldn't find comparative data for the Philippines and Vietnam.

Top five countries for death cases
  1. 238 Thailand up 17%
  2. 153 Philippines up 21%
  3. 117 Indonesia up 9%
  4. 98 United States down 1%
  5. 85 Vietnam down 2%
Top ten destinations for overseas trips
  1. New Zealand 1,419,600
  2. Indonesia 1,209,600
  3. United States 1,082,300
  4. United Kingdom 644,600
  5. Thailand 580,200
  6. China 572,000
  7. Japan 438,200
  8. Singapore 407,400
  9. India 384,200
  10. Fiji 339,700
Top five countries for hospitalisation cases
  1. 204 Thailand up 5%
  2. 143 Indonesia down 8%
  3. 101 New Caledonia down 2%
  4. 99 United States down 15%
  5. 69 Philippines down 3%

You surely have heard or read about a dead Argentine tourist diving (Try scuba) with Pura Vida during the first week of January.
An Argentine Tourist Died in Thailand on a Diving Excursion | Maritime Herald
Though only few fragments of the investigation were released, it seems that the instructor in charge of the dive lost sight of the try scuba diver. This is something unforgivable. A Try Scuba diver must always be on sight and at hand reach if not in direct contact.

Here is a music video for you all. It is called “Death Island of the Setting Sun” and is a cover of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN.

I listed 15 foreigners who died there from August 2012 but while it was being made, Rocio Gomez had her fatal dive there. The number is now 16.

Rocio Gomez actually took her fatal dive lesson on 17 DECEMBER 2018 and died 4 days later. It seeems the tragedy did not start being reported in Argentina until about 7 JANUARY 2019. There are few reports in English and no reporting from mainstream media within Thailand yet. (Samui Times is now based outside Thailand)

Here is a brief video with English audio and Spanish text about the non-reporting of the tragic death of Rocio Gomez following her diving lesson on Koh Tao Thailand with Pura Vida Diving (Tailandia)

The thumbnail for this video has an image of the Sairee Beach Bookmaker on Koh Tao displaying some odds that should be self explanatory.

“AleG” aka “Alejandro Garcia” aka “sofocletus” regularly criticises my comments elsewhere as he is now doing here.

Did you know that the good folks on Koh Tao launched a petition calling on the Samui Times to be sued for reporting on tourist deaths there?

The standard operating procedure is SHOOT THE MESSENGER!

When Shelly Bot was killed on Koh Tao in 2017 while snorkeling with her partner, it was falsely claimed she was swimming in a boat lane. That’s right! Blame the victim!

When Silje Mathisen was hit & killed by a Pura Vida Diving boat in shallow water, trolls on a Thai forum blamed the 1st time diver!! The captain pleaded guilty to negligence causing death by the way.

Blame the victims. Shoot the messengers. Muddy the waters. Thanks AleG
